Revised 21st and 220th RAC Paints Now Available

Jim Hodkinson has been so kind to help me revise the paint schemes for both bird dogs to make them more realistic with the actual aircraft. The
following changes have been made to both birds:

1. The greenish tone of the fuselages have been changed to a brownish olive color which now is very close to the paint tones of the real birds
2. The size and location of the "United States Army" lettering on the fuselage is now in the correct location
3. Both aircraft now have white wheel covers on the main landing gear wheels -- as did the real O-1s.
4. All of the numerous cautionary and advisory stencil markings on the aircraft have been removed from the airframes. Markings of this type were rare on U.S. Army O-1 bird dogs.

As a means for all of you bird dog enthusiasts to relate the new paint schemes to the real birds, I am including several pics of the 21st RAC bird,
O-14950, on an actual mission in Vietnam. The pics were taken during one of our two bird missions. One of the major infiltration routes for enemy
forces was a large valley area that ran southwest of Da Nang to the Laotian border and the Ho Chi Ming Trail. Two aircraft were flown on
deep reconnaissance missions to identify and report on any enemy activates. One bird would fly at a low altitude over the route to do the actual
reconnaissance. The other would fly high as both a safety precaution and to conduct radio relay if required. Because of the low altitude of the
recon bird and distance from friendly units, the pilot's only radio contact capability was with the covering bird. About 20% of the Da Nang platoon's
missions were of this type with either military intelligence or special forces back seaters on board. Unfortunately, I have no pics of the Catkiller
220th bird (O-15013) to provide. However, I do have some 8mm film posted on the internet of 220th birds in flight near the DMZ and the famous
"Rockpile" in northern I Corps. That can be seen at the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3207454557#. The

Many thanks, 16. It all looks so innocent and peaceful down there doesn't it.... As a Brit in the RAF at the time - I'm sure glad we weren't over there!
