System Requirements

Post by Roughrider » 31 Dec 2009, 02:50

Like a lot of others, the economy has forced me to be very careful and selective about add-on purchases. In the Bird Dog manual there seems to be a wide margin between the minimal system specs and recommended specs, e.g., 2GB vs. 4 GB of RAM; 2 Ghz vs. 3 GHz processors.

I would like to purchase the Bird Dog. However, in spite of the fact that I have a dual core processor, I have to wonder if my older system can really run it adequately. Adequately may be defined as a sufficient frame rate to actually be able to use the add-on without frustration.

Therefore, I am interested in what results others with systems similar to mine may be getting. So, if anyone has a system close to mine and is running the Bird Dod, I would appreciate knowing your performance results, i.e., your average framerates in dense and less dense environments. In short, can I really run the aircraft? Here are my lowly specs:

ADM 64 x 2 Dual Core 4800+ 2.41 GHz Processor, 2GB RAM, Geforce 7800GTX KO 256MB Card, WinXP SP3

Thanks for any help you may offer.

Ditto ..my system is very similar to yours and I would also like some feedback re FPS before purchasing. I have the Safir and that is fine but I notice that the system requirements are larger for the Bird Dog.

I bought it anyway (and very nice it is!)...Roughrider it works fine on my system even in add on scenery...although you wouldn't want to be flying in a major city with autogen way up. My PC specs are slightly lower - AMD 4400 2.3ghz, 2gb RAM, Nvidia 256mb 8800GT card, Win XP ...so you should be fine.

Guys, sorry for delay.
Our Bird Dog takes FPS not much more than default Cessna I hope. :)
These system requirement are meant for comfortable FSX flying.

Running on an old - very old - AMD single core 3200, 2GB RAM and and AGP ATI3650 card 512meg here, and get better than default fps. It's certainly giving me solid 20+fps, compared to the default Cessna G1000 at about 15.

Does that help?
