Simon, the 3.1 palaver is over from where I sit. I installed it BOSH! Just like that. Uninstall client-install...er, client.

Good post mate.

Here's what to do. Reinstall the 2.3 air file etc. Then go to: Wherever your FSX is\Sibwings. Inside there are several folders. Rename Updates to Updates_OFF or something. That should get rid of the nag. I can't see that there will be any more updates to it so no loss there.

Copy the .air file from an aircraft you like and paste it into the one you don't like. Just edit the aircraft.cfg to tally with the new .air file. Bram, go read the manual, practice the starting and operating procedures and I promise you, you'll get a great deal of satisfaction from your AN-2. There, two responses and both saying more or less, the same thing.
